Project Engineer

We are seeking a proactive and solution-focused Project Engineer within our evolving Engineering & Project Management Department, with excellent design and construction technical knowledge for our swiftly established and ever-developing academic institution that’s fast becoming the focal point for scientific and technological research in the Middle East. The successful candidate will join at a professional level and supervise general construction, laboratory fit out, modification and infrastructure projects from design to practical completion and handover. This includes the direction of KAUST project team, external design & project management contractors, third party inspectors and construction contractors.
You will work closely with Senior Project Engineers and the Project Execution Manager and during the project execution is the single point of contact for the project. This requires a close coordination with the Engineering and Support & Control Division of E&PM as well as interface with stakeholders within KAUST, in particular the project proponent, procurement, finance, maintenance & utility, health & safety and security. Key Duties
• Performs all supervisory duties common to design and construction supervision as established by KAUST Management
• Establishes Project Execution Plan and supervises compliance of performance
• Reviews all project deliverables on compliance with contract, design and specifications
• Monitors the compliance of actual expenditure with the allocated budget and prepares the expenditure requests for authorisation by the management. Forecasts cost to completion
• Establishes the project master schedule and reviews / approves contractor’s construction & procurement schedule and monitors schedule performance applying professional planning & tracking software. Indicates pro-actively schedule variances and proposes corrective action
Required Skills, Experience and Education
• Excellent problem solving/resolution skills
• Leadership skills managing multi-disciplinary teams composed of KAUST and third parties
• Excellent technical knowledge of design & construction of similar facilities
• Excellent knowledge of national and international codes and industry standards for design, construction, laboratories and HSE
• Excellent knowledge of cost benchmarks, planning and scheduling techniques, construction methods, specifications and material & equipment used in general construction and laboratory fit-out
• Proactive attitude and collaborative nature
• Excellent knowledge of the English language in speaking and writing
• Computer and software literacy: MS Office / Project Planning (MS project/Primavera) / Auto CAD and similar software required in the design & construction industry
• Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering, MEP or Electrical Engineering from a reputable University
• 10 years+ working experience with at least 5 years in a similar position
• Minimum 2 years experience in the Middle East, preferably in a comparable institution
• Essential is knowledge of laboratories and R&D building and infrastructure, gained within a similar institution or during design & construction within a consultancy or construction company.
